Carmelo has always been considered a leader for the Knicks, but his leadership has been questionable the year.

Can Melo lead a team to a championship?

Carmelo, the 10 time all-star has been amazing — during his time as a Knick — on and off the court. On July 8th, he posted this quote

on Instagram showing his leadership ability: “I need your voices to be heard. We can demand change. We just have to be willing to. THE TIME IS NOW. IM all in. Take Charge. Take Action. DEMAND CHANGE.” This was a powerful quote he said after the violent acts in Dallas, which saw five officers killed during a protest last year.

According to reports, Melo has expressed he wants to stay in the New York for the remainder of his career. After a tough loss against the Bucks, in January, he told reporters during a post-game interview: “We’re not going to let anything seep into this locker room as far as negativity. I don’t even want to think about last year or the year before, those situations. I know right now we’re not gonna allow ourselves to get down, especially with the guys on this team. We know how to react on situations on this team. So it’s just a matter of sometimes when things are not going your way they’re not going your way. We’ve got to figure out a way to get out of that.” At the time, the Knicks suffered their 6th straight loss, and as a leader, Melo needed to uplift his team.

Melo has also gotten support from his teammates about his leadership abilities. Recently, Lance Thomas commented on Melo being a leader: “He’s done a great job of being a professional and remaining a leader for our team. For me to watch him go through it, for the younger players to see the level of focus, putting all that stuff aside and remaining a veteran leader for the team, I can only hope that when I become a veteran later in my career, my teammates have utmost respect for me the way we have for Carmelo.” This quote by Lance shows Melo is respected by his teammates for the leadership he provides.

At the end, it all comes down to whether Carmelo Anthony will ever lead the Knicks to a ring or will he find his way out of NY? We’ll have to see!!
